Irish Paddy Murphy has had a great start to his career with a record of 10W-0L-2D and is looking to continue the unbeaten run for the remainder of 2014,starting on September 3 on Ace Boxing Promotions Foxtel show.
We catch up with him to talk Boxing and his other Love of Gaelic Football.
Its been a while since weve seen you in the ring Paddy, whats been going on?
It has been a while, I haven’t fought since December due to injuries. I had to pull out of a fight with Jason Kanofski in May due to a wrist injury so I took a break from training.
You have a fight coming up on Fox sports on September 3 at Eatons hill, How are you feeling about your return to the ring?
I can’t wait to get back in the ring on September 3 against Mark Ramirez. I’ve got a lot of lost time to make up for. I’ve been training hard for this one and I’m looking to make an impact on fox sports.
Whats coming up for Irish Paddy Murphy?
Im pencilled in to fight in Melbourne in October and again in Brisbane in November so it’s going to be a busy few months. I want a few big fights to see out what has been a frustrating year so far.
I hear you also played Gaelic football when you were a boy?
I played a lot of gaelic football when I was younger and started again this year with Shamrocks in Brisbane. Boxing can be a lonely sport at times so I really enjoy the team mentality and social aspect of gaelic football
You had quite a successfull amateur career in Ireland, can you tell us of some of the milestones you achieved?
I had close to 120 amateur fights winning about 95. My main achievements were an Irish juvenile title, a youth commonwealth silver and an Ulster senior title.
Did you always see a career in the paid ranks?
I had a few years away from the sport and moved to Brisbane when I was 21. I had no intentions to turn pro until I started to train at The Boxing Shop and the rest is history.
I hear your a great golfer and you would like to challenge any boxer in Australia to a game of golf, is this true?
I recently played 9 holes at Carindale golf course and finished only 30 shots over. Not bad I reckon, I beat Gareth Williams by a few shots. He’s the only man I know that has to shout “fore” when he’s putting!
Fighting in Ireland last year was great. It had been quite a while since I’d fought in front of my family and friends and they came out in big numbers to support me. The result didn’t quite go my way but it was a massive experience nonetheless.
Any Last words from Irish Paddy Murphy?
I’d like to thank everyone for their continued support. It means a lot knowing that so many people want to see me succeed. I’m feeling fit, strong and determined to give it a big shot!
