June 21 was the South East Qld titles and with 6 boxers weighing in, only 3 got matched in fights.
Unfortunate boxers to miss out were “V”, Skye and Matilda.
17 yr old, 52kg boxer Lucas Howels once again missed out on a match in his own weight division but we were happy to step him up against the reigning 54kg Australian champion.
Lucas improved his record to 8W 1L as he fought hard for his victory.
Lucas listened well and tried things that he has been working on in training. He landed some very solid straight left hands to the body which took its toll on the national champion and slowed him down which enabled Lucas to follow up with hooks and uppercuts. A great win against the Australian champion and a good gage to see how he is travelling.
Unbeaten Hayley Finlayson 2-0 was matched against a Toowoomba girl at 57kg.
Another tough fight for Hayley, where she had to dig deep and show her fighting spirit.
Hayly was the superior boxer and used her beautifull skills to out point the tough girl grom Toowoomba.
Hayley has great dedication to her sport and from starting off as a 73kg non boxer to now becoming an unbeaten fighter who is looking at moving down to the 54kg division, she is a true inspiration to the whole team.
Last up for the team was 75kg boxer Dylan Murphy.
Dylan was drawn against a very good boxer from NSW but Dylan got 1 up for Queensland by beating him on all judges cards.
Dylan stuck to a solid game plan of tight defence and shorten the distance by stepping fwd after his opponent punched. When Dylan shortened the distance he was landing solid jabs to the body as well as righthands to the head on many occassions.
A great night of boxing for “Team TBS” as we look forward to next weeks big night of fights against Victorian and Act boxers. As well as meet IBF world middleweight champion Sam Soliman.
