Youth boxers Jack Bowen and Liam Paro along with Female Elite Boxers Emma Carruthers and Emma Pain were taken to Tasmania by Head Female Coach Shara Romer to attend a Training camp with Australia’s National Coach Don Abnett .
The first stop was the Latrobe boxing club with Australian Commonwealth Games and Olympic representatives Luke Woods and Jackson Woods as well as National 81 kg Champion Dylan Hardy.
Our Team were made welcome by the leading gym from Tasmania,with some great sparring, partner work and Track work as well as explosive strength training.
The team trained in 3 tough sessions per day and this trip will be most worthwhile when the upcoming competition season kicks off.
The next stop was over to Hobart pcyc for some more sparring and trackwork.
Australian 2012 Olympic Team Captain, Luke Jackson, was in attendance and sparred 9 rounds with our squad, “It was a great experience to be sparring with the likes of Luke Jackson,Jackson Woods and Luke Woods” said 17 year Old Jack Bowen.
2013 National Champion Liam Paro, pushed himself to the limits everyday and was happy to be in the company of Coach Don Abnett and the 2013 Olympic captain Luke Jackson, “Its a great honour to work with these people, I just hope they thought I did ok”.
Emma Carruthers has a big rematch coming up against former Australian Champion Jessica Ratelek on February 22, so the training in Tasmania was exactly what was needed for her preparation.
Female Coach Shara Romer was over the moon by how the boxers pushed themselves and responded to the National Coach “I m very proud of all the team who came to Tasmania, we had some great training at 2 very strong gyms and the Coaches Craig Woods and Ralph Belbin were tremendous with their hospitality”.
Next up for our Team is Emma Carruthers on Feb 22 then Jack Bowen and Liam Paro will represent Qld against South Australia on March 9.
