About The Boxing Shop — Salisbury, Brisbane
The Boxing Shop is a boxing and fitness gym in Salisbury, Brisbane, established in 2007. From Gareth Williams’ beginnings in a backyard shed, the gym has grown around boxing skills, discipline and community. Our programs serve kids, teens, adults and athletes working towards competition.
Gareth Williams: founder and coach
Gareth is a former professional boxer and rugby league player, with Australian Institute of Sport coaching experience described in the gym’s existing history. His work combines athlete development with helping young people build confidence and direction through boxing.
In 2023, Westfield Mt Gravatt recognised Gareth as a Local Hero for his work with The Boxing Shop: Boxing Beyond Barriers. Read Westfield’s account of Gareth’s community work.
Shara Romer: Olympic and Commonwealth Games coach
The Australian Sports Commission records that Shara began coaching in 2010, served as a support coach at the Rio Olympics and was an assistant coach at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games. Boxing Australia also lists Shara among the coaches supporting the Australian boxing team at Paris 2024. As a director of Boxing Beyond Barriers, she contributes to the organisation’s programs and mentoring work.
A verified Olympic athlete connection

Boxing Beyond Barriers
Since 2011, the gym’s Boxing Beyond Barriers program has taken structured boxing and mentorship into schools and community organisations across South East Queensland. Discipline, respect, resilience and self-belief sit at the heart of that work.
